Wooden Boat Festival of Geelong - Daily from 10 March 2018 to 12 March 2018

The biennial Wooden Boat Festival of Geelong returns to the Labour Day weekend in March, with activities and fun for the whole family. The event has expanded even more since it was last held in 2016, and this year as well as all the wonderful wooden boats on display at the Royal Geelong Yacht Club (including 3 tall ships!), visitors will be able to view a local artist exhibition at the Geelong Club, maritime themed works at the Geelong Art Gallery and enjoy plenty of free entertainment on the waterfront. Held from Saturday 10 – Monday 12 March, the Wooden Boat Festival of Geelong is not to be missed!

The Wooden Boat Festival of Geelong is a celebration of the history, tradition and heritage of Wooden Boats of all kinds. 

Held biannually at the Royal Geelong Yacht Club, it is an opportunity for our community to see some of the most historic as well modern wooden boats sailing on Corio Bay. It also has a strong multicultural theme thru our local communities as well as engaging our arts and schools. 

The festival has a strong focus on childrens activities as well as a great entertainment program at the Royal Geelong Yacht Club. There will be Tall Ships, Couta Boats, Classic Yachts, Rowing and Motor Boats as well as Historic Skiffs from Sydney Harbour.

> Family movie night at RGYC (Friday 9 March from 7:30pm)
> Free Face painting on Fairnie Park (Saturday and Sunday)
> FunFit Kids activities on Fairnie Park (Saturday)
> Buskers Festival on Fairnie Park (Saturday, Sunday and Monday)
> Guided Art and Maritime History and Heritage walk (Saturday)
> Live music all weekend at RGYC
> Official Welcome to Country and Festival opening (Saturday 3:30pm)
> Launch of community built St Ayles Skiff (Saturday 4:15pm)
> Whisky tasting on board a tall ship (Saturday and Sunday night – over 18s only)
> Rock and Roll Night (Saturday night)
> Primary School Art competition display (Saturday and Sunday)
> Maritime Art Exhibition at Geelong Art Gallery (Saturday, Sunday and Monday)
> Maritime Art Exhibition and sale at Geelong Club (Saturday and Monday)
> Tall Ship cruises on Corio Bay (Saturday, Sunday and Monday)
> Captain Jack Sparrow Pirate dress up and treasure hunt (Sunday 1:30pm)
> Maori War Canoe and Haka (Sunday 10am)
> Indonesian Welcome Dance (Sunday 6pm)
> Range of guest speakers in the Sailing School Theatre (Saturday and Sunday)
> Bote Cote Quick & Dirty boat building competition (Sunday and Monday)
> Captain Trash kids entertainer on Fairnie Park (Monday 11am)

Geelong Highland Gathering -  18 March 2018, 09:30 AM - 05:00 PM

The Geelong Highland Gathering offers a celebration of all things Scottish; featuring Pipes and Drums, Highland Dancing to Scottish Highland Games competitions to displays of Scottish Country Dancing  while Celtic Musicians perform playing the fiddle, violin and small pipes.

Wander around the Clan tents. Enjoy traditional Scottish food to sampling the finest wine or beer while the watching the 42nd Highlanders and Glen Lachlan College of Arms perform. 

The 2018 Geelong Highland Gathering concludes with the traditional mass display of pipe bands.

In 2018, the event will host the 2018 Victorian Sate Pipe Band Championships.

Please note, there is no ATM available at the event.

Geelong Beekeepers Club 2018 Field Day - 18 March 2018, 10:00 AM - 03:00 PM

Want to learn about beekeeping? The Geelong Beekeepers Club will be holding its 2018 Field Day on Sunday 18th March 2018. All welcome!

Activities include:

  • How to light and use a smoker
  • Hive opening, inspecting brood and frames, identifying disease, routine maintenance NOTE:  Hive opening requires participants to wear protective clothing and gloves
  • Ask a Beekeeper
  • Presentations on hive health, disease identification and bee friendly plants
  • Honey extraction and filtering
  • Assemble frames and embed wax
  • Local flora identification walk, weather   permitting
  • Honey tasting
  • Children’s activities
  • Sales of beekeeping - related goods

Lara Food & Wine Festival - 25 March 2018, 10:00 AM - 04:00 PM

2018 is the 10th year for the Lara Food and Wine Festival and it is going to be BIG!!

Enjoy a relaxing day on the beautiful grounds of Pirra Homestead to enjoy all that is good about our region.

A tempting array of food and wine will be on offer for you to sample and enjoy while you listen to sound styling of very talented musicians. You might even want to dance!

A range of family friendly activities for kids, displays and, of course, the cooking stage with demonstrations and competitions for your viewing pleasure and entertainment.

 The festival aims to showcase the diverse range of quality food and wine produced in the Lara region. The event also aims to:

• Promote and support local producers 
• Educate the public about local produce 
• Promote the Lara region and its tourism industry
• Contribute to the quality of life and civic pride within the local Lara community 
• Support and promote the arts and culture in the community
